Narrawada is a small historic village located 7 km from Duttalur in Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The village population is around 1,500. The
major occupation of the inhabitants include agriculture and livestock. People
predominantly speak Telugu
Sri Vengamamba
Devasthanam a temple nearly 300 years old is found in this village.
It was built in the
name of a woman Pachava Vengamamba who is from the same village. She committed Sati with her husband who suffered a brutal death by the bandits of the
nearby area. Numerous sightings of her spirit were reported after the incident
with people claiming they were blessed by her. Since then she was considered a
god and a temple was built in her name. The house where she lived is still
intact and found in this village.
Sri Vengamanba
perantallu (Tirunalla) will be held every year in the month of June or July. It
was estimated that around 500,000 people from Andhra Pradesh and its neighboring
states Tamil Nadu and Karnataka visit the temple during this time.
This
temple is famous in the surrounding area, and is dedicated to the Goddess Sri
Vengamamba, a wish-satisfier goddess. The temple's festival conducted each year
in the months of June and July, called Sri Vengamamba Tirunala, is visited by
more than 5 lakhs (500,000) Pilgrims from all over Andhra, from Srikakulam to
Cuddapah.
The
easiest way to travel to the temple is by bus from Pamuru which is 23km from Narrawada.
