Sri Raja Rajeshwari Temple in Nellore is famous for Rahukala Pujalu. Devotees lit the lamps in cups made by turning the limes for getting rid of Graha Dosham. Desires of devotees who worship the Goddess thus for 18 Fridays will be fulfilled it is believed. Devotees take the 40 days deeksha before Vijayadasami. After deeksha is completed, devotees bring water from the holy Pinakini River for the Abhishekam of Goddess. Arul Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy who is Sri Rajarajeswari Peetadhipathi located in Arcade district of Tamil Nadu was going to Vijayawada in 1965 and he stopped at Durgamitta in Nellore to take rest for some time. He felt the presence of Goddess in the open land opposite to the place where he was taking rest. Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy then asked his disciple who was living in Nellore to construct a temple in that place. And accordingly a temple was built.
Gradually Lord Ganesh, Subrahmanyeswara and Navagraha temples were constructed in the temple premises. Number of devotees visiting the temple also increased. In 1985 the temple was taken over by Endowment department. Later in 1993 a temple was built for Goddess Gayatri and in 1999 another temple was built for Lord Sundareswara
